1) Can I use the Eaton B-Line 12128 SCGV junction box outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The 12128 SCGV carries a NEMA Type 1 rating, which is indoor use only, for protection against incidental contact and falling dirt. It offers no protection against rain, hose-down, or dust ingress. For a wet or outdoor location you need a NEMA 3R or 4 enclosure instead.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 12128 SCGV enclosure?
It measures 12 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. The 8 inch depth gives room for wire bending and splices behind the screw cover, which is why it is a common pull and junction box rather than a shallow device box.
3) Does this B-Line junction box come with knockouts already, or do I have to punch my own?
Knockouts are provided: 5 on each side, 5 on top and 5 on the bottom. That gives you conduit entry on four faces without a hole saw or Greenlee punch, which is what most pull box applications need.

5) Is the cover on this B-Line box hinged or screw-on, and can one person get it back up?
The cover is a screw cover, not hinged, secured with plated screws. B-Line puts keyhole slots on the cover so you can back the top screws out part way, hang the cover on them, and then start the rest, which is what makes it a one-man job on a 12 by 12 lid.
6) What is the 12128 SCGV made of, and will it rust in a damp mechanical room?
The body is 16 gauge galvanized steel, left unfinished (grey mill appearance) rather than painted. The galvanized coating handles typical indoor humidity in mechanical and electrical rooms, but it is still a Type 1 box and should not be used where water can reach it directly.
