1) Can the B-Line 864 SCGV junction box be used outdoors or in a wet location?
No. The 864 SCGV is a NEMA Type 1 enclosure, which is indoor use only, for protection against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and falling dirt. It has no gasket and no rating against rain, washdown, or dust. For an outdoor or damp location you need a Type 3R or Type 4 enclosure instead.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 864 SCGV?
It measures 8 inches high, 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. The 4 inch depth is the usable wiring depth behind the cover, which matters when you are stacking splices or landing a terminal strip inside.
3) How does the B-Line 864 SCGV mount to a wall?
Surface mount, through holes in the back of the box. You supply the fasteners and anchors to suit the substrate (masonry, stud, or strut). Nothing is included for mounting, and it is not a flush or recessed box.

It is a screw cover, not hinged. The cover has keyhole slots, so you can back the screws off partway, lift the cover clear, and later hang it back on the loosened screws before tightening. The screws are plated. Where an electrician is opening the box daily for troubleshooting, a hinged-cover enclosure is the easier choice.
7) What gauge steel is the B-Line 864 SCGV and will it rust in a damp basement or parking garage?
The body is 16 gauge galvanized steel, left unfinished (grey mill appearance) rather than painted. Galvanizing gives it reasonable corrosion resistance for indoor mechanical rooms, basements, and back-of-house spaces, but as a Type 1 box it is still not intended for exposed wet or outdoor use.
8) How heavy is this box when I am hanging several off unistrut overhead?
Each 864 SCGV weighs 3.8 lb empty. Light enough to hang from a pair of strut straps or two anchors, but size your fasteners for the conductors and devices going inside as well.
