1) Is the B-Line 101048 HS wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 101048 HS is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor general purpose only, with no gasketing against rain, dust, or washdown. Put it in a dry mechanical room, electrical room, or interior plant wall. For an outdoor run or anywhere subject to water, you need a NEMA 3R raintight wireway instead.
2) What are the actual cross-section dimensions of this B-Line wireway, and will 10 x 10 handle my conductor fill?
The trough is 10 inches high by 10 inches wide, in a 48 inch length, giving a 100 square inch cross section. Wireway fill is limited to 20 percent of the cross-sectional area under the NEC, so that works out to 20 square inches of conductor. Size your fill off the conductor areas in your code tables before you commit to the 10 x 10.
3) Does this wireway have a hinged cover or a screw-on cover?
Hinged. The cover swings open on the 101048 HS, so an electrician pulling wire through a long run does not have to handle and re-set a loose panel on a ladder. The cover is secured to the body with plated screws, so it still closes down tight once the pull is done.
4) How many knockouts does this 48 inch wireway have and where are they?
There are 15 knockouts on the top and 15 on the bottom of the 48 inch section, so you can drop conduit out the bottom and feed in from the top without drilling the trough in the field. There are no side knockouts called out, so if your conduit has to enter from the side you will be making your own openings.
5) What gauge steel is this Eaton B-Line wireway, and what is the finish?
14 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray. That is the standard gray used across commercial electrical gear, so a run of this wireway will match adjacent panelboards, disconnects, and control cabinets in the same room.
