B-LINE 2248 GGV NK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is this wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 2248 GGV NK is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, dry location only, intended for general purpose protection against incidental contact and falling dirt. For outdoor, washdown, or damp areas you need a NEMA 3R or 4 raintight wireway instead.
2) Does this wireway come with knockouts for conduit, or do I have to drill it?
No knockouts. The GGV NK designation means the trough is supplied blank, so you punch your own openings wherever the conduit lands. That is usually what an electrician wants on a custom layout, but if you're looking for factory knockouts on standard centers, this is not that part.
3) Is 2.5 x 2.5 inch wireway big enough for my conductor run?
The 2248 gives a 2.5 by 2.5 inch interior trough, which is the smallest common lay-in size and suits control wiring, panel gutters, and modest branch circuit runs. Article 376 limits conductor fill to 20 percent of the cross sectional area of a metal wireway, so count your conductors against that before committing to the 2.5 inch size rather than stepping up to 4 by 4.
4) Do I need anything else besides the wireway sticks to finish the job?
Yes. Each 48 inch section ships as the trough and its screw cover. Connectors to join sections end to end, elbows or tees for direction changes, end plates to close the run, and hangers or anchors for the through hole mounting are all separate items, and the conduit openings have to be punched in the field since the body comes with no knockouts.
5) How does the cover come off on the B-Line 2248 wireway, screw cover or hinged?
Screw cover, secured with plated screws along the length. You take the whole cover off to lay conductors in, which is fine for an initial install or occasional pull. If you're opening the trough often for troubleshooting, a hinged cover style is the easier choice.
6) What is the B-Line 2248 wireway made of, and will it hold up in a garage or unheated shop?
16 gauge galvanized steel with a gray finish and plated screws. The galvanized base plus plating gives reasonable corrosion resistance for an indoor space that runs cold or a little humid, but it is still a NEMA 1 enclosure, so no direct water exposure.
7) Is the Eaton B-Line 2248 GGV NK wireway certified for use in Canada?
It is CSA Certified, so it's acceptable for Canadian installations as well as US work. That matters on institutional and municipal jobs where the inspector wants the certification mark on the trough itself.
