B-LINE 6624 GGV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Eaton B-Line 6624 GGV wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 6624 GGV is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general purpose only. It keeps fingers and falling dirt out of the conductors but offers no protection against rain, dripping water, or washdown, so keep it inside dry mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and above-ceiling runs. For a loading dock, rooftop, or any exterior wall you need a raintight NEMA 3R wireway instead.
2) How does the cover come off on this B-Line wireway, and can I get into it after it is installed?
The 6624 GGV uses a screw cover secured with plated screws along the length of the trough. You back the screws out to pull the full cover and get open access to every conductor in the run, then reinstall. It is not a hinged or latching cover, so leave yourself screwdriver clearance in front of the gutter if it sits behind equipment. Where you expect frequent access, a hinged-cover wireway is the easier choice.
3) Is the B-Line 6624 GGV wireway CSA certified?
Yes, the 6624 GGV carries CSA certification, which is what most Canadian and many institutional specs call for on gutter and wireway. If your submittal sheet asks for a third-party listing on lay-in wireway, that is the mark to cite.
4) What material and gauge is this wireway, and will it hold up in a damp mechanical room?
The body is 16 gauge galvanized steel in a gray finish with plated cover screws. The galvanized base gives it reasonable resistance to the incidental humidity you get in a boiler or mechanical room, and 16 gauge is a sturdy wall thickness for a 6 x 6 trough. It is still a NEMA 1 indoor enclosure, though, so it is not meant for standing water, spray, or exterior exposure.
5) Can I run a longer wireway by joining several of these 24 inch sections together?
Yes, wireway is built to be run in series, and the 6624 GGV is a 24 inch section of a 6 x 6 system. To make up a longer run you order additional sections plus the connector, elbow, tee, and end plate fittings for the same 6 x 6 size and the same GGV screw-cover family, since fittings are size-specific and are not supplied with the trough. Match the galvanized finish across the run so the whole gutter behaves the same way.
