The 8824-12FW is a NEMA 12 wireway, which is the dust-tight, drip-tight indoor rating. It handles falling dirt, circulating dust, lint, and dripping or splashing non-corrosive liquids, so it suits plants, machine shops, and food-adjacent process areas. It is not a NEMA 4 or 4X enclosure, so do not use it where it will be hosed down or exposed to weather. The drip-tight seal comes from a seamless poured-in-place gasket rather than a cut-and-glued strip, and the cover clamps down with heavy-duty hinges and screw clamps.

It is an 8 inch by 8 inch cross section, 24 inches long. The 8x8 square profile is the large end of the standard lay-in wireway range and gives you a big gutter for pulling and splicing heavy feeders or bundling a lot of branch circuits, versus the more common 4x4 or 6x6 troughs. Length is a straight 24 inches, so it works as a short run, a jog between panels, or a pull section in a longer assembled run.

Go hinged where you will be back in the trough repeatedly, at pull points, above equipment, or anywhere a loose cover would be dropped from a ladder. The 8824-12FW cover swings on heavy-duty hinges and still seals down with screw clamps, so you get the NEMA 12 seal without handling a separate panel. Screw-cover trough is fine for a buried run you will never open again. For maintenance access in a machine room or over a line, the hinged version pays for itself in labor.

The 8824-12FW carries CSA C22.2 certification, so it is acceptable for Canadian electrical installations under the CSA enclosure standard as well as US industrial work.

It is 14 gauge steel, finished in ANSI 61 gray. That is the standard gray used on switchgear, panelboards, and control enclosures, so a run of this trough matches existing electrical equipment in a plant or mechanical room without repainting. The 14 gauge body is what lets an 8x8 section stay rigid between hangers.
