B-LINE 8836 GGV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the 8836 GGV wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 8836 GGV is a NEMA 1 screw cover wireway, which is indoor, dry location only. The cover is screwed down rather than gasketed, so it gives you a degree of protection against falling dirt but nothing against dripping water, washdown, or weather. For an outdoor run you need a NEMA 3R rain tight wireway instead.
2) Does this B-Line wireway come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own?
Knockouts are already in it: 11 on the top and 11 on the bottom, plus thru holes for mounting. That covers most drop and feed points on a panel wall without pulling out a knockout punch. Side and end penetrations you'd still have to make yourself.
3) What gauge steel is the 8836 GGV wireway, and is it galvanized or painted?
14 gauge steel, galvanized, in a gray finish with plated cover screws. The galvanized body and plated hardware are aimed at corrosion resistance in indoor industrial and mechanical rooms rather than painted-enclosure appearance, so it suits plant floors, back-of-house, and electrical rooms.
4) Is this wireway certified for use on a job in Canada?
The 8836 GGV is CSA Certified, so it can be specified on Canadian work as well as US installations. If your spec calls out a particular NEMA type alongside that, note this one is a NEMA 1 indoor enclosure.
5) Screw cover versus hinged cover wireway: which should I use?
This one is a screw cover. The full-length cover comes off with plated screws, which gives you the whole trough open for a long pull or a big splice bundle, and it discourages casual opening. The trade-off is that you need two hands and a driver every time you go back in. If the trough is somewhere you'll be opening repeatedly for troubleshooting or adds, a hinged cover version is the easier choice.
