1) Is the Eaton B-Line 8872 G wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 8872 G is a NEMA 1 wireway, which is general purpose indoor only, and it is not suitable for wet, damp, or outdoor runs. For exterior or washdown areas you need a raintight or NEMA 3R/4 type wireway instead. It is CSA Certified.
2) How do you get conductors in and out of this 8x8 wireway without field drilling?
The 8872 G comes with 23 knockouts along the top and 23 along the bottom, so conduit and cable entries can be punched out where you need them on either face. Side entries or non standard locations still have to be drilled or punched in the field.
3) Does the cover on the B-Line 8872 G lift off or does it screw down?
Screw cover. The full length cover is secured with plated screws, so you back the screws out to open the run rather than hinging or snapping it off. Plan on clearance in front of the duct for a screwdriver along the whole 72 inch length, and expect slower access than a hinged cover if this is a panel you will open often.
4) Do fittings and connectors come with the 8872 G wireway?
No. The 8872 G is a straight 72 inch trough section with its cover and screws. Elbows, tees, end plates, hangers, and connector kits are separate items, so count your corners and terminations when you take off the job.
5) What gauge steel and what color is the Eaton B-Line G series wireway?
14 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray, which is the standard gray that matches most switchgear and panelboards in a commercial electrical room. If you are extending an existing gray duct run, the color will match typical industrial equipment finishes.
