B-LINE 101072 G – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Eaton B-Line 101072 G wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 101072 G is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor general purpose only, intended to keep out falling dirt and incidental contact. For outdoor runs, rooftops, wash-down areas, or anywhere water can get at it, you need a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 raintight/watertight trough instead. It is CSA Certified.
2) What are the inside dimensions of this 10 x 10 wireway, and how much length does one section give me?
The 101072 G is a 10 inch by 10 inch trough, 72 inches long, so a single section covers six feet of run. The 10 x 10 cross section is the large end of the standard wireway sizes, useful where you are pulling a lot of feeders or need generous room for splices and taps rather than the more common 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 trough.
3) Does the 101072 G wireway come with knockouts for conduit, or do I have to punch my own?
It comes with 23 knockouts on the top and 23 on the bottom, so conduit entries along the run are already provided on both faces. The ends are thru-hole style for connecting sections and mounting. Side entries are not pre-punched, so any side penetrations you need get field-punched.
4) Do I need anything besides the wireway sections to build a complete run?
A straight section like the 101072 G covers six feet of run and includes its own screw cover and plated screws. Fittings are separate: elbows, tees, crosses, end plates, closure and connector hardware, and hangers or brackets all get ordered on top of the sections, sized to the same 10 x 10 cross section. Mounting fasteners for the thru holes are supplied by the installer.
5) How is the cover secured on this B-Line wireway, and can I get at the conductors after it is installed?
The cover is a screw cover, held on with plated screws. That means full removable access along the whole 72 inch length once the screws come out, but it is slower to open than a hinged cover. If you are running a trough that gets opened repeatedly for troubleshooting or future taps, a hinged-cover wireway saves labour; for a permanent feeder run, the screw cover is the normal choice.
6) How do I mount this wireway, and how heavy is one section?
Mounting is through-hole: you fasten the trough body directly to the wall, strut, or structure with your own hardware through the provided holes. One 72 inch section weighs 50.39 lb, so plan on two people for the lift and space your supports for that load, especially before the conductors go in.
7) What gauge steel is this wireway, and will the finish match the rest of my gear?
The body is 14 gauge steel finished in ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used on most industrial panelboards, control enclosures, and switchgear, so it blends with typical electrical room equipment. 14 gauge is a heavier wall than the light-gauge troughs sold for residential-scale work.
8) What is the exact part number to order for a 10 x 10 x 72 inch B-Line screw cover wireway?
Order Eaton B-Line model 101072 G. The number reads as the trough size and length: 10 inch height, 10 inch width, 72 inch length, G series screw cover, NEMA 1, steel, ANSI 61 gray.
