B-LINE 88 FL SIDE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line 88 FL SIDE elbow fit 8 x 8 wireway?
Yes. The Eaton B-Line 88 FL SIDE is built for 8 inch by 8 inch lay-in wireway and mates to trough of that cross section on both legs. The fitting itself carries an 8 inch height and 8 inch length/depth with a 12.31 inch overall width dimension, so allow for that reach at the corner when you lay out the run.
2) What is the difference between a side opening and a flat/top opening 90 degree wireway elbow?
A side opening 90, which is what the 88 FL SIDE is, turns the run in the plane that puts the removable cover on the side of the corner. Use it where the wireway turns left or right along a wall. If your run has to turn up or down out of the wall plane, you need the matching flat or top opening elbow instead, not this one. Getting the opening orientation wrong means the cover faces the wall and you cannot lay conductors in.
3) Is this wireway elbow rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. It is a NEMA 1 enclosure rating, which is general purpose indoor only, dry locations. Painted steel with an ANSI 61 gray finish gives you indoor corrosion protection, not weather protection. For an outdoor or washdown run you need a NEMA 3R or 4 rated wireway system throughout, including the fittings.
4) Can I lay wires into this elbow without pulling them through?
Yes, it is a lay-in fitting. The cover comes off so conductors drop straight into the corner and get clamped down, no fishing or pulling around the bend. That is the whole point of using a wireway elbow instead of a conduit ell on a large multi-conductor run.
5) What part number do I order for the Eaton B-Line 8x8 side opening 90 elbow?
The manufacturer part number is 88 FL SIDE. The 88 denotes the 8 inch by 8 inch wireway size and the rest of the designation is the side opening 90 degree elbow configuration.
6) Will the gray finish match the rest of my existing wireway run?
The finish is ANSI 61 gray paint over steel, the standard gray used across Eaton B-Line wireway and most industrial electrical enclosures. If your existing trough and panels are ANSI 61, the corner will match. If you are working against a black or white painted system, it will not.
