B-LINE 88 HSLIN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line 88 HSLIN elbow fit 8 x 8 inch wireway?
Yes. The 88 HSLIN is sized for 8 by 8 inch lay-in wireway, and it will not mate with 4 x 4, 6 x 6 or 12 x 12 trough. Match the elbow size to the wireway cross section exactly or the covers and flanges won't line up.
2) What does inside opening mean on a 90 degree wireway elbow?
An inside opening 90 degree elbow turns the run with the access opening on the inside of the corner, so the conductors lay into the short radius side. An outside opening elbow puts the opening on the outer corner instead. Pick based on which face of the corner you can reach once the wireway is mounted to the wall or structure, because the cover only comes off on the opening side. The 88 HSLIN is the inside opening version.
3) Is this elbow rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 88 HSLIN carries a NEMA 1 degree of protection, which is indoor, general purpose enclosure only. It offers no rain, dust or washdown protection. For an outdoor or damp run you need a NEMA 3R rated wireway fitting instead.
4) Why use a lay-in elbow instead of pulling conductors through a conduit bend?
Lay-in construction means the cover comes off and the wires drop straight into the corner, no pulling around the bend. On a wireway system with a lot of conductors or large feeders, that is the whole point: you lay in at each turn rather than fighting a pull. The 88 HSLIN is a lay-in 90 degree elbow for 8 x 8 wireway.
5) How much does the 88 HSLIN elbow weigh and how far does it stick out?
It weighs 9.129 lb and measures 8 in height, 8 in length/depth and 12.215 in width. The 12.215 in figure is the dimension to check against your available corner space before you commit to the layout, since a steel 8 x 8 elbow needs more room at the turn than the trough itself.
6) What is the exact part number for the B-Line 8x8 inside opening lay-in elbow?
Eaton B-Line 88 HSLIN. That is the 8 by 8 inch, 90 degree, inside opening lay-in wireway elbow in steel with ANSI 61 gray paint, NEMA 1.
7) Will the gray finish on this elbow match the rest of my wireway run?
The elbow is painted ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used across Eaton B-Line lay-in wireway and most electrical enclosures, so it blends with existing trough, covers and panelboards in the same finish. Steel body, painted, for indoor use.
