B-LINE 8845 L SIDE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line 8845 L SIDE elbow fit an 8 x 8 wireway run?
Yes. The Eaton B-Line 8845 L SIDE is sized for 8 inch by 8 inch lay-in wireway, with a stated product height of 8 inches and length/depth of 8 inches. It turns a run 90 degrees. Overall width across the fitting is 9.037 inches, so allow a little extra clearance at the corner beyond the nominal 8 inch trough dimension.
2) What does "side opening" mean on this 90 degree wireway elbow, and how do I know it's the right one for my corner?
Side opening means the removable cover is on the side face of the elbow rather than the top or bottom, so the turn is made in the horizontal plane, left or right, rather than up or down. The 8845 L SIDE is the left side opening version. Pick it when your wireway runs along a wall and has to turn a corner flat; if the run has to drop or rise, you want a bottom or top opening elbow instead.
3) Is this B-Line wireway elbow rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 8845 L SIDE carries a NEMA 1 degree of protection, which is indoor, general purpose only, protecting against incidental contact and falling dirt. It is not rainproof or dust tight. For an exterior wall, a loading dock, or a washdown area you need a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 rated wireway and matching fittings.
4) Can I drop conductors into this elbow instead of pulling them through?
Yes, it is a lay-in fitting. Take the side cover off and the conductors lay straight into the corner, then the cover goes back on. That is the whole point of lay-in wireway and why installers use it instead of conduit through a turn, no fish tape and no pulling tension at the 90.
5) Is this elbow UL Listed for a commercial electrical inspection?
The elbow is UL Listed, which is what an inspector looks for on a wireway fitting in a commercial or institutional installation. That listing plus the NEMA 1 rating defines where it can go: indoor, dry locations.
6) Do I need a right hand version of this elbow as well?
The 8845 L SIDE is the left side opening 90. Side opening elbows are handed, so if the corner on your run turns the other way you need the corresponding right side opening 8 x 8 elbow instead. Confirm which way the run turns before you order, it is the single most common mix-up with side opening fittings.
7) What is the 8845 L SIDE elbow made of and will the finish match the rest of my wireway run?
Galvanized steel with an ANSI 61 gray acrylic electrocoat finish. ANSI 61 gray is the standard gray used across Eaton B-Line wireway and on most switchgear and enclosures, so it blends with existing gray trough and covers in a typical indoor electrical room.
8) How heavy is this wireway elbow for overhead support planning?
About 4.216 lb for the fitting itself. Light enough for one person to hold at the corner while bolting up, but remember the support has to carry the elbow plus the conductors laid into it and the adjoining trough sections, so hangers still go per your run spacing.
