B-LINE 88 FTF – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a telescoping fitting used for in a wireway run?
It closes the gap between two fixed sections of wireway that cannot be pushed together, for example where you are tying into existing trough, dropping into a panel already set, or making up a run between two walls. The telescoping body slides to take up the leftover distance so you do not have to cut and re-flange a length of trough. The 88 FTF does this for 8x8 lay-in wireway.
2) Is the 88 FTF wireway fitting rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 88 FTF carries a NEMA 1 degree of protection, which is indoor, general purpose enclosure protection only, with no rain or washdown rating. For outdoor or wet areas you need NEMA 3R or 4 rated trough and fittings instead.
3) Is the Eaton B-Line 88 FTF UL Listed?
Yes, it is UL Listed, which is what an inspector or a spec on a commercial or institutional job will want on the wireway fittings as well as the trough itself.
4) Will the 88 FTF match the gray painted wireway already installed in my building?
The finish is ANSI 61 gray paint, the standard gray used across B-Line lay-in wireway and most commercial trough and enclosures, so it will read the same as existing ANSI 61 gray runs. Body is steel.
5) How much space does the B-Line 88 FTF telescoping fitting take up on the run?
Overall the fitting measures 8.25 in height, 12.31 in width and 12 in length/depth, and it weighs 7.167 lb. Plan roughly a foot of run for it and account for the weight when you are spacing hangers or supporting it over a ceiling.
6) What part number do I order for the B-Line 8x8 wireway telescoping fitting?
Order Eaton B-Line model 88 FTF. There is one configuration, 8x8, steel, ANSI 61 gray, NEMA 1, so there is no finish or size option to specify.
7) Can I pull conductors through a telescoping fitting or does it have to be lay-in?
This is a lay-in fitting, same as the 8x8 trough it joins, so the cover comes off and conductors are laid in from the side rather than fished through. That is the point of lay-in wireway and the reason electricians use it for large gutter runs and panel feeds.
