It's a NEMA 12 wireway with an oil-resistant gasket under the cover, so it's built for indoor industrial spaces where dust, falling dirt, and dripping non-corrosive liquids or oil are the concern. NEMA 12 is not a washdown or outdoor rating, so for hosedown or exterior runs you want a NEMA 4 or 3R trough instead.

The cross section is 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches and the section is 24 inches long. That is the small end of the wireway range, suited to short gutter jumps between panels and control enclosures rather than large feeder bundles. Fill is governed by the 20 percent cross-sectional limit for wireways in the NEC, so size your conductor bundle against the 6.25 square inch interior.

It stays attached. The cover hangs on butt hinges and is secured with quick-release latches, so you swing it open for pulling and dressing conductors instead of juggling a loose cover and screws overhead. That's the practical difference from a screw-cover trough.

It carries CSA C22.2 certification, so it's acceptable for Canadian installations as well as US work. Order under manufacturer part number 2224-12LW.

Only for light work. A 2.5 x 2.5 inch trough gives 6.25 square inches of cross section, and with the 20 percent NEC wireway fill limit that leaves very little room once you're into feeder-size conductors. For gutter duty over a panelboard most installers step up to a 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 section and keep the 12LW size for control and instrumentation runs.

14 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray. That's the standard industrial control equipment gray, so a run of this trough matches typical panel shop enclosures and gutters already on the wall without repainting.
