B-LINE 4460 HS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the B-Line 4460 HS wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. The 4460 HS trough is a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, general-purpose only. It offers no protection against rain, dripping water, or washdown, so keep it inside dry areas. For outdoor runs or damp mechanical rooms you need a NEMA 3R rain-tight trough instead.
2) What size is the B-Line 4460 HS wiring trough and how much wire will a 4x4 cross section carry?
It is a 4 inch by 4 inch cross section, 60 inches long, so you get 16 square inches of gross wiring space. Code limits conductor fill in a wireway to 20 percent of the cross section, which works out to about 3.2 square inches of conductor area in this size. If your bundle is bigger than that, step up to a 6x6 or 8x8 trough.
3) How does the 4460 HS wireway mount, and is any hardware included?
It mounts through holes in the body, so you fasten it directly to the wall, strut, or backplane with your own bolts or screws. Anchors, strut, and fasteners are not part of the trough, so pull them onto the same order along with the connectors or couplings you need to tie sections together.
4) How many knockouts does this 60 inch wireway have and can I still run conduit into it where there is no knockout?
There are 19 knockouts along the top and 19 along the bottom, which lets you drop conduit at regular intervals over the 60 inch length without drilling. If you need an entry on the sides or at a point with no knockout, the 16 gauge steel body punches or hole-saws cleanly for a standard conduit fitting.
5) Is the Eaton B-Line 4460 HS wireway approved for use in Canada?
It carries CSA C22.2 certification, so it is acceptable for Canadian installations as well as US work. Remember it is a NEMA 1 indoor enclosure, so the location still has to be dry.
6) Will this B-Line trough match the gray finish on my existing panelboards and gutters?
The finish is ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used on most commercial switchgear, panelboards, and control enclosures, so it lines up with existing gear in a typical electrical room. Body is steel at 16 gauge.
7) How heavy is a 60 inch section of this trough for overhead mounting?
A section weighs 16.868 lb empty. That is light enough for one person to set on strut, but plan your support spacing for the weight of the conductors you are adding on top of it.
