The 6648 GRT is a NEMA 3R trough, so it's rated for outdoor use against falling rain, sleet and snow. That covers exterior walls, rooftops and unheated service areas. It is not a washdown or hosedown enclosure, so if equipment gets sprayed directly or sits in a wet process area, step up to a 4 or 4X rated trough instead.

It's a 6 x 6 inch cross section, 48 inches long. Wireway fill is governed by cross-sectional area rather than a conductor count, so work from the 36 square inch gross area of the 6 x 6 body and the usual 20 percent fill limit for wireway with more than 30 current-carrying conductors. That gives roughly 7 square inches of conductor area to work with before derating applies.

There are 15 knockouts in the bottom already, so you can land conduit into the underside without pulling out a punch set. Side and end penetrations you make yourself. The 16 gauge steel body takes a standard knockout punch cleanly.

Screw cover, not hinged. The cover is held by a flange plus plated screws, so you back the screws out and lift it clear to pull wire, then reseat it. That's the right choice where the trough is inspected rarely and you want the cover captive; if you're in and out of it weekly, a hinged-cover trough saves time.

It's CSA Certified, which is what a Canadian inspector will look for on a wireway installation. Useful if you're standardizing one trough across US and Canadian sites.

The finish is ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used on most commercial switchgear, panelboards and wireway, so it lines up visually with existing ANSI 61 equipment on the same wall. The body is steel, so it's for dry or 3R outdoor locations rather than corrosive environments where you'd specify stainless or aluminum.
