1) Will a Crouse-Hinds TP676 gangable switch box fit a standard 2x4 stud bay?
The TP676 gangable steel switch box measures 3 in height, 2.75 in width and 2 in on the length/depth dimension the spec sheet calls Product Length Depth, with a 2-3/4 in box depth. That 2-3/4 in depth sits within the 3-1/2 in cavity of a nominal 2x4 stud, so the box body clears the back of the bay with room behind it. The mounting ears are what set the face flush with the finished wall surface.
2) Where are the knockouts on the Crouse-Hinds gangable switch box and what size conduit do they take?
Three knockouts, all 1/2 in trade size: one in the bottom, one in the end, and one in the side. That gets you 1/2 in EMT, rigid, or flex from below, from the end of a run, or through the side into an adjacent bay. If your layout needs more than one entry point, plan it before you set the box, because three knockouts on a 14 cubic inch body is a tight budget and gang boxes lose the side entry at the joined faces.
3) Is the Crouse-Hinds TP676 box steel or plastic, and does it work for grounding a metal conduit system?
Steel. That matters for more than durability: a steel box in a metal raceway system is part of the equipment grounding path, so the conduit lands at the knockout with a proper connector and the box bonds through it. Plastic boxes cannot do that and are not permitted where the raceway is the ground. Steel also lets you mount a device yoke directly and self-ground. The box itself covers the enclosure. If you are ganging, you need one box per gang, since each unit contributes its own 14 cubic inches and its own side wall comes off to join the next.
