1) What size conduit knockouts does the Crouse-Hinds TP548 square box have and where are they?
Two groups. The bottom carries three 1/2 inch and two 3/4 inch knockouts, and each of the four sides gives you a total of eight 1/2 inch and four 3/4 inch across the box. So you can bring EMT or rigid in from behind for a surface-mounted run, or from any side for a through-run, in either trade size without adapters. Model TP548.
2) Does this Crouse-Hinds square outlet box have built-in cable clamps for NM/Romex?
No clamps. The 4-11/16 inch drawn steel box is set up for conduit only, so you supply the connector at each knockout. If you are pulling NM cable into it you need to add listed cable connectors at the knockouts, or pick a box supplied with internal clamps instead. For EMT, rigid or flex it is ready as-is.
3) Can I use this steel box in a wet location or a hazardous area like a paint booth or fuel room?
No. The TP548 square box is rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. It is an unsealed drawn steel box with open knockouts, so it belongs in dry indoor work: framing cavities, above ceilings, surface runs in mechanical rooms. For a classified area you need a cast box built for that division, and for outdoor or damp locations you need a weatherproof enclosure with a gasketed cover.
4) Is this Crouse-Hinds square box UL Listed and does it meet NEC requirements for a commercial job?
The box is UL-Listed and built to NEC/CEC standards, which is what an inspector or a spec on a commercial drawing is looking for on an outlet box. That covers both US and Canadian code work. It is limited to ordinary, non-hazardous locations, so it does not carry any classified-area listing.
5) Can I standardize on one square box across a multi-family or facility rewire?
For a portfolio standard the 4-11/16 inch square box is a reasonable single SKU because the knockout pattern covers both common trade sizes, three 1/2 inch and two 3/4 inch on the bottom plus eight 1/2 inch and four 3/4 inch on the sides, so the same box serves a single-device outlet, a junction, or a feed-through without stocking variants. The tradeoff is that it needs 4-11/16 inch covers and rings, not the more common 4 inch ones, so your cover stock has to move with it.
