It needs a reflector. The Eaton Enhanced 50 Series 1450E-8547 works in non-polarized retroreflective mode, so the beam leaves the sensor, hits a reflective target mounted opposite, and returns to the same housing. You mount one device and one reflector, not an emitter/receiver pair. Effective range is 30 ft. Because the mode is non-polarized, shiny or mirror-like objects passing through the beam can bounce light back and read as the reflector; if you are detecting glossy cans, film-wrapped packs or polished metal, a polarized retroreflective head is the better choice.
2) What cable do I need for the Eaton 1450E-8547 sensor, and is one included?
The sensor terminates in a 4-pin M12 connector, so you supply a 4-pin M12 female cordset to reach the panel. No cable ships with the sensor itself. When you are aiming the sensor at the reflector, it tells you the return signal is only just strong enough, meaning the alignment, reflector size or lens condition needs attention before the line runs. Use it as your setup target: get it out of marginal before you walk away, or you will be back when dust or vibration pushes it over the edge.
6) Is the Eaton retroreflective sensor the right pick, or should I use a through-beam for a long conveyor span?
