B-LINE CR20V – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Eaton CR20V accept a standard 15A plug, or only 20A T-slot cords?
The CR20V is a NEMA 5-20R duplex, and a 5-20R face takes both ordinary 15A straight-blade plugs and 20A plugs with the sideways blade. It is rated 20A at 125V, two-pole three-wire grounding.
2) What wire size can I land on the Eaton CR20V receptacle, and is it back-wire or side-wire?
Terminals take #14 through #10 AWG copper on screws, wired from the side. There are no push-in back-wire holes called out, so plan on side wiring with a screw-catch feature that holds the terminal screws captive while you work.
3) Does the CR20V need a separate bonding jumper to the metal box?
It has auto-grounding, so the mounting strap bonds to a grounded metal box through the mounting screw. On a nonmetallic box, or wherever your inspector wants it, still land the equipment grounding conductor on the green screw.
4) Is the Eaton CR20V good enough for a commercial building, or should I be buying hospital grade?
It is a commercial specification grade device, which is the normal step above residential grade for offices, retail, schools and multi-family common areas. It is cULus Listed and RoHS compliant. Patient care spaces are a different animal and call for a hospital grade green-dot receptacle instead.
5) Is the CR20V a GFCI or tamper resistant receptacle?
No. The CR20V is a standard straight-blade duplex receptacle, not a GFCI and not listed with tamper-resistant shutters. For kitchens, bathrooms, rooftops and other locations where GFCI protection is required, protect the circuit with a GFCI breaker or a GFCI device upstream.
6) Can I use the Eaton CR20V on a 20-amp multi-outlet branch circuit?
Yes. Rated 20A at 125V with #14-10 AWG screw terminals, it lands 12 AWG comfortably, which is the conductor a 20A branch circuit uses. Two-pole three-wire grounding, so hot, neutral and ground.
7) What color is the CR20V and will it match my existing devices?
Ivory, standard style face. If the other openings in the building are white or light almond, this one will read differently, so match the color across a floor before you order a fleet quantity.
