1) Will the Eaton FDB3020 breaker work on a 480V three-phase panel?
Yes. The FDB3020 is rated 600 Vac and 250 Vdc, so a 480Y/277 or 480V three-phase system is within its rating. Watch the interrupting capacity though: it is 18 kAIC at 240 Vac but only 14 kAIC at 480 Vac. If your available fault current at that panel exceeds 14 kA, this FDB frame will not meet the study and you need a higher AIC F-frame.
2) Is the FDB3020 a complete breaker or just a trip unit I have to build up?
It ships as a complete molded case circuit breaker, not an interchangeable trip unit or a frame you assemble. It is an F-frame, FDB type, three-pole, 20 amp device ready to install.
3) Is the trip setting on the Eaton FDB3020 adjustable?
No. Both the thermal and the magnetic elements are fixed, so there is no dial to set. The breaker trips at its factory 20 amp thermal curve and a fixed instantaneous pickup. If your application needs adjustable instantaneous for motor inrush coordination, this is the wrong device.
4) Does the FDB3020 come with lugs on both ends?
Terminals are supplied on the load side. The line end connects to the panel or switchboard bus or mounting straps, so plan the line side connection around your enclosure and order any line side lug kit separately if your installation needs one.
5) How much space does the Eaton FDB3020 F-frame breaker take up in an enclosure?
The breaker measures 6 in height, 4.13 in width and 3.38 in length, and weighs 4.5 lb. Use those figures to check gutter space and door clearance before you cut a panel opening for a three-pole F-frame.
6) Can I use this breaker on a 50 Hz system overseas or on a DC circuit?
It carries a 50/60 Hz frequency rating, so it is fine on either 50 Hz or 60 Hz AC. It also holds a 250 Vdc rating, which covers DC applications up to that voltage.
