1) Will an Eaton CH310 three-pole breaker fit a BR or Cutler-Hammer Type BR loadcenter?
No. The CH three-pole breakers are built for Type CH loadcenters only. Type CH and Type BR use different bus and mounting arrangements, so a CH330 or CH350 will not seat correctly in a BR panel. Check the label inside your panel door for the accepted breaker type before ordering.
2) Does a three-pole CH breaker trip all three poles at once?
Yes, it's a common trip design. A fault or overload on any one pole opens all three together, so the load is fully isolated rather than left single-phasing. That matters on three-phase motors, where losing one leg while the other two stay energized can cook the windings.
3) Can I use this breaker on a 208Y/120 three-phase panel?
The voltage rating is 240V, which covers 208Y/120 and 240V three-phase systems since the line-to-line voltage stays at or below the breaker's rating. It is not rated for 480V or 480Y/277 distribution. For those, you need a breaker series rated to that voltage, not a CH.
4) Can I replace a failed three-pole breaker in a CH panel with this one and keep the same amperage?
If the panel is a Type CH loadcenter, yes. Read the part number off the face of the breaker you're pulling and match the last digits: a CH340 is 40 amps, a CH360 is 60. Keeping the same rating is only correct if the original was sized to the conductor and load in the first place, so verify the wire size while the cover is off.
5) What amperages does the Eaton CH three-pole breaker come in?
Ten ratings: 10A (CH310), 15A (CH315), 25A (CH325), 30A (CH330), 35A (CH335), 40A (CH340), 50A (CH350), 60A (CH360), 70A (CH370) and 100A (CH3100). Size to the load and conductor per the circuit design, not to the largest breaker that will fit the space.
6) What does thermal magnetic mean on a CH breaker, and do I need an electronic trip unit instead?
Thermal magnetic means two protection mechanisms in one breaker: a bimetal element that responds to sustained overload with an inverse time delay, and a magnetic element that trips near-instantly on a short circuit. There are no adjustable settings. If your spec calls for adjustable long-time, short-time or ground-fault pickup, that's an electronic trip breaker and a CH is not the right device.
7) I need a three-phase circuit for an RTU in a small retail space. Is this the right breaker?
For 240V or 208V three-phase equipment fed from a Type CH loadcenter, yes. Match the amperage to the unit's nameplate MCA and maximum overcurrent protection, and take three adjacent spaces in the panel. If the RTU nameplate calls for HACR-rated or fuse-only protection, follow the nameplate. It will not serve a 480V rooftop unit.
8) Does the CH3100 work as a main breaker?
The CH series is listed for main breaker duty in Type CH loadcenters as well as branch use. Whether the 100A CH3100 can serve as your main depends on the specific loadcenter's main breaker provisions and bus rating, which are printed on the panel label. Backfed main installations also require a hold-down kit.
