1) Will an Eaton CH2100 breaker fit in a Square D or Siemens panel?
No. The Eaton CH two-pole breakers are built for Type CH loadcenters only. The mounting rail and bus stab are specific to Eaton's CH bus, so they won't seat correctly in a Square D QO/Homeline or a Siemens panel. If your panel is an Eaton Type BR, that is a different breaker line too, and CH will not interchange with it. Check the label inside the panel door for "Type CH" before ordering.
2) Does a common trip two-pole breaker shut off both legs if only one leg faults?
Yes. Common trip means an overload or short on either pole opens both poles at once, so a 240 V load is fully de-energized rather than left with one hot leg live. That is what code requires for a 240 V two-wire circuit, and it's also what makes the breaker safe to use as a disconnect for equipment like a range, water heater, or compressor.
3) Does this Eaton breaker provide both overload and short-circuit protection, or do I need something else?
Both. It is a thermal magnetic breaker: the thermal element handles sustained overloads like an over-drawn appliance circuit, and the magnetic element trips fast on a bolted short. 4) How much panel space does a two-pole Eaton CH breaker take up?
Each pole is a 3/4-inch standard CH frame, so a two-pole unit occupies two adjacent 3/4-inch spaces in the loadcenter. That narrower frame is why a CH panel fits more circuits in the same enclosure height than a 1-inch breaker panel. Count two consecutive open spaces on the same side of the bus before you install.
