Klein Tools CL360 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Klein CL360 open jaw fit around 3/0 cable?
Yes. The CL360 open fork jaw has a 0.58 inch (1.5 cm) opening, which Klein rates for cables up to 3/0. Anything with a conductor diameter over 0.58 inch will not seat in the fork, so for larger feeders or bundled conductors you need a full clamp meter with a bigger jaw.
2) Can the CL360 fork meter measure DC current?
No. Current measurement on the CL360 is AC only, up to 200A through the fork. DC shows up on the voltage side: it reads up to 1000V DC through the test leads and has a DC polarity indicator. If you need DC amps on a solar or battery system, this is the wrong meter.
3) What CAT rating does the Klein CL360 carry, and can I use it in a 480V panel?
Two ratings apply to different parts of the tool. The jaw and housing are CAT IV 600V / CAT III 1000V. The electrical (test lead) side is CAT III 600V / CAT II 1000V. A 480V three-phase panel falls inside CAT III 600V, so lead measurements there are within rating. Voltage measurement tops out at 600V AC.
4) Do I need a separate non-contact voltage tester if I carry the CL360?
No, the NCVT is built into the fork itself, so you can sweep a conductor for live voltage without swapping tools or attaching leads. That plus AC amps through the jaw and AC/DC voltage, resistance and continuity through the leads covers most troubleshooting calls with one instrument.
5) Is an open fork meter like the CL360 better than a clamp meter for panel work?
The fork wins where the jaw of a clamp will not fit. You slide it sideways onto a conductor in a crowded panel or gutter instead of needing room to open and close a clamp around it. The tradeoff: the fork reads AC current only, up to 200A, on cable up to 0.58 inch diameter. For DC amps or for large feeders, a conventional clamp meter is the right call.
6) What comes in the box with the Klein CL360?
The CL360 ships with a carrying case, test leads, and two AAA batteries, so there is nothing else to buy to start using it. Test leads stow in built-in holders on the meter body. The replacement lead set is Klein part 69410.
7) Is the CL360 accurate on VFD and electronically controlled loads?
The CL360 uses auto-ranging True RMS measurement, which is what you want on the distorted waveforms from variable frequency drives, LED drivers and switching supplies. An averaging meter under-reads those. Readings come up on a 6000 count backlit LCD.
8) How big is the CL360 and will it fit a pouch on my tool belt?
It measures 8.39 x 2.12 x 1.38 inches and weighs 6.4 oz (180 g), so it is slim enough to ride in a pouch or a back pocket rather than the tool bag. The listed overall length is 21.3 cm.
9) How high does the CL360 read on resistance and does it have continuity?
Resistance goes to 60 megohms, high enough to check insulation-adjacent readings, open thermostats, and high-value control circuit paths, and continuity testing is built in on the same leads. Both are lead measurements, not fork measurements.

Yes, auto power off kicks in after 15 minutes of non-use, and there is a low battery indicator plus a battery door you can reach without tearing the meter apart. It runs on two AAA cells.
