Emtek 1264-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1264 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1264 is trim only: plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, so if you are replacing worn handles on a swinging patio door that already has a working multi point gearbox, this is the right part. If the gearbox itself has failed, trim alone won't fix it.
2) What does Door Configuration #2 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #2 on the 1264 is the non-keyed setup for a semi-active door: a fixed (dummy) handle on the exterior and an operating lever on the interior. It is used on the inactive or semi-active leaf of a pair of patio doors, where you need to work the multi point lock from inside but the outside handle is a pull only. If you need key access from outside, this is the wrong configuration.
3) Will Emtek 1264 trim line up with my existing multi point lock spindle and cylinder holes?
The plate is drilled 3-5/8 inch center-to-center with the cylinder position above the handle. That is the pattern used by BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver) and Andersen multi point doors that Emtek references for this configuration. Measure from the handle spindle hole to the cylinder hole on your door; if it is 3-5/8 inches with the cylinder up top, the plate matches.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1264 trim?
Three things beyond finish. Handing (right or left hand), lever style, and your door thickness. Lever choices are Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma. Finish options are Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). Get the handing wrong and the operating lever ends up backwards on the inside face.
5) It's non-keyed, so why does the plate still have a cylinder position?
The 1264 plate carries a cylinder cutout above the handle sized for an American-style cylinder, but the trim itself ships without a key cylinder. On a semi-active leaf the keyed leaf is usually the other door. If your opening needs the cylinder in this plate, you supply an American cylinder separately.
6) Will these bronze plates match the rest of my Emtek Sandcast Bronze door hardware?
Yes, the 1264 is part of Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection, cast in solid bronze and offered in the same Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze and Tumbled White Bronze finishes used across that line. The levers are Sandcast Bronze levers too, so a patio door can be matched to the entry and interior sets in the same house. Sandcast bronze finishes vary slightly piece to piece by nature of the casting.
7) Do Emtek multi point levers sag over time?
Each Emtek multi point lock trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what eliminates the drooping handle problem common on older patio door trim. Worth knowing if you are replacing sagging levers on an existing multi point door, since the fix is in the trim, not the gearbox.
8) Is the Emtek 1264 trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is a residential-rated product, built for swinging patio doors. For a commercial opening that needs a graded, cycle-tested lockset, this isn't the part; specify commercial mortise or cylindrical hardware instead. For single-family, multi-family units and high-end residential patio doors it is the intended application.
9) Is the Emtek 1264 rectangular plate big enough to cover the old plate's screw marks?
The plate is 2 by 10 inches in a rectangular profile. If you are coming off a narrower or shorter escutcheon, measure the old footprint against 2 x 10 before you commit, because any prep outside that outline will show. The style is rectangular, not radiused, so square-cornered cutouts are covered cleanly.
10) Is the Emtek 1264 electronic or keypad operated?
Purely mechanical. The 1264 is non-electronic trim, so there is no keypad, motor or wiring to run and no power source to fail. Operation is the inside lever driving the multi point gearbox.
