1) Does the Emtek 1462 multi point trim come with the mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1462 is trim only, so you get the two 2 x 10 inch sandcast bronze plates and the handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, and it needs to be a Door Configuration #4 lock with the cylinder position above the handle and 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder and handle for the plate to line up.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1462 trim?
Three choices. Finish: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), or Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). Lever style, from ten sandcast bronze options: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma. And handing, right or left. There's also an optional door thickness entry if your door falls within the 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch range and you want it noted.
3) Do I need to know the handing before ordering this Emtek patio door trim?
Yes, handing is a required selection, right hand or left hand, and it is not field-reversible on this trim. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it's a right hand door. Getting it wrong means the lever and plate orientation won't match the opening.
4) Is the Emtek 1462 sandcast bronze trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It's a residential product. The 1462 is sandcast bronze swinging patio door hardware for homes, and it's non-keyed passage, so it won't secure a commercial entry. For a multi-family or commercial opening you'd be looking at graded commercial lever or mortise hardware instead.
5) Can I use a 2-3/4 inch backset with this Emtek multi point trim?
Yes. Backset is adjustable to either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches, the two standard residential backsets, so it works whether the door was bored shallow or deep. Cross bore is 2-1/8 inches, and the latch faceplate is available round corner or square corner to match the existing mortise in the edge of the door.
6) Do the levers on the Emtek 1462 sag over time?
Each of these multi point trims ships with a spring assist built in, which returns the lever to horizontal and is there specifically to stop the droop you get on long patio door levers. Nothing extra to order for it.
7) Will the Emtek 1462 finishes match my other sandcast bronze door hardware?
The 1462 is part of Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection, and the three finishes offered, Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, and Tumbled White Bronze, are the same finish names Emtek uses across that collection. So a patio door trimmed with this will read consistently against sandcast bronze levers and knobs elsewhere in the house. Note these are cast bronze finishes with natural variation, not plated brass.
