Emtek 1662-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1662 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1662 is trim only: plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase, so you need a lock body already in the door or ordered alongside it.
2) Will the Emtek 1662 trim fit my existing patio door prep?
It is built to Emtek Door Configuration #6 with a 3-5/8 inch handle-to-cylinder center-to-center spacing and the cylinder hole below the handle. Door thickness range is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, backset adjusts between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches, and it works with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore. Emtek references Milgard and Pella doors for this trim. If your existing prep has different center-to-center or the cylinder above the handle, you need a different configuration.
3) Is the Emtek 1662 keyed, and can I lock the patio door with it?
Non-keyed passage function. The 1662 latches and operates the multi point mechanism through the levers but carries no cylinder and no locking function of its own. If you need a key-locking patio trim, order a keyed Emtek multi point trim in the same Door Configuration #6 instead.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 1662 sandcast bronze patio trim?
Four things. Finish (Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, or Tumbled White Bronze), lever style from the ten Sandcast Bronze levers (Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, Yuma), handing as right or left hand, and your actual door thickness. Handing and lever choice are both required, so nothing ships as a default.
5) How big are the plates on the Emtek 1662 trim, and will they cover an old escutcheon footprint?
The plates are rectangular, 2 x 10 inches. That is a fairly slim, tall plate, so it covers a vertical run of prep but not much width. If your previous trim left holes outside a 2 inch wide band, they will show.
6) Do Emtek sandcast bronze multi point levers sag over time?
Spring Assist is built into the trim, which returns the lever to the neutral horizontal position and is what prevents the drooping handle you get on older multi point trims. Useful on patio doors where the lever gets heavy daily use.
7) Can I match the Emtek 1662 passage trim to keyed trim on other doors in the same house?
Yes, within the Sandcast Bronze collection. The same three finishes (Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, Tumbled White Bronze) and the same ten Sandcast Bronze lever styles carry across the line, so a keyed multi point trim or interior lever can be matched visually to this passage set. Just keep the door configuration correct per opening, since the 1662 is built for Config #6.
8) Is this Emtek trim rated for commercial use?
The 1662 is a residential product, part of Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection in solid brass with a bronze substrate. For a high-traffic commercial entrance, specify commercial-grade hardware rather than this patio trim.
9) Does the Emtek 1662 come with a latch faceplate, and which corner style?
The latch faceplate is offered in round corner or square corner. Match it to the existing mortise pocket in the door edge so the plate seats flush without rework.
