1) Does the Emtek 1644 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1644 is trim only: plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, usually from the door manufacturer, since the gearing is built into the door panel.
2) What does Door Configuration #6 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and is it the right one for my door?
Configuration #6 on the Emtek 1644 is the non-keyed semi-active arrangement: a fixed (dummy) handle on the exterior and an operating lever on the interior. That is what you use on the inactive or semi-active leaf of a French pair, where the panel is thrown by the inside lever and there is no cylinder. If your door is the active leaf that needs to be keyed from outside, this is the wrong configuration.
3) Will the Emtek 1644 trim match the hole spacing on my existing multi point door?
The plates are 2 by 10-1/2 inches with 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing, and the cylinder position is below the handle. Measure the existing plate length and the CTC on your door before ordering; Emtek lists Milgard and Pella as reference door manufacturers for this trim.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1644 Tuscany trim?
Four things. Finish, either Flat Black Bronze (FB) or Medium Bronze (MB). Lever style: Medici (MD), Napoli (NA), Octagon (OCL) or Padua (PD). Handing, right or left. And your door thickness, which is an optional entry but worth giving so the spindle and fasteners suit the panel.
5) Why does handing matter if the outside handle is fixed?
Handing sets which way the lever is oriented and which side the plate's cylinder cut-out and spindle land on, so a right hand trim will not read correctly on a left hand panel. Handing is a required selection on the Emtek 1644, so establish the swing before you order.
6) Is there a keyhole in the Emtek 1644 exterior plate?
No cylinder on the 1644. It is a non-keyed trim, so the exterior side is a fixed pull with no keyed entry. Emtek's multi point trims are set up for American cylinders when a keyed configuration is used, but that is a different configuration number, not this one.
7) Will the levers sag over time on these Emtek patio door trims?
Every current Emtek multi point trim, including the 1644, ships with the Spring Assist function, which returns the lever to neutral and keeps the handle from drooping. That is the common failure complaint on older patio door trim and it has been designed out here.
8) Can I use the Emtek 1644 on a commercial storefront or apartment entry?
Emtek classes the 1644 multi point trim as residential. It is intended for swinging patio doors in homes, not for commercial openings where graded, cycle rated hardware is specified. For a commercial entry, look at Grade 1 mortise lock hardware instead.
9) What material and finishes are the Tuscany style multi point plates?

10) Is the Emtek 1644 electronic or does it accept a smart lock?
