1) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 3325 mortise handleset?
Handing is required on every 3325 order, and it can't be reversed in the field the way a tubular latch can. Four choices: LH, RH, LHR, or RHR, with the R versions being out-swing doors. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left and the door swings away from you, that's LHR. Get it wrong and the lever throws the wrong way on the wrong face of the door.
2) What backset does the Emtek 3325 handleset use, and will it fit my existing mortise pocket?
Two backsets are offered on the 3325, 2-1/2 inch and 2-3/4 inch, so measure from the door edge to the center of the existing lever hub before you order. The door prep is standard mortise per ANSI A115.1, which is the common commercial and heavy residential mortise pocket, so if the existing lock is a standard mortise case in the matching backset it drops into the same cutout.
3) Will the Emtek 3325 work on a door thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
Standard build is for a 1-3/4 inch door, which is the usual entry door thickness. Thicker doors are handled by specifying the actual thickness at the time of order, and there's a door thickness field on the order form for exactly that. Don't order standard and shim it, the spindle and cylinder lengths change with thickness.
4) What is the difference between F20 and F13 on the Emtek 3325 mortise lock?
F20 is the entrance function: key retracts the latch from outside, inside lever always free, and the thumbturn or button controls outside locking. F13 is the dormitory function, where the outside lever stays locked and the key is required from outside regardless of what the inside is doing. Pick F20 for a house or an apartment front door where the resident wants to leave it unlocked; pick F13 where the opening must stay locked at all times, like a unit door off a common corridor. Both are UL listed on this handleset.
5) Can the Emtek 3325 handleset go on a fire rated door?
