Backset is a required selection on the order, so measure from the door edge to the center of the bore before you buy. Existing doors bored at either of the two common backsets are covered.
2) Can I put an Emtek 453636 handleset on a door that already has a knob or lever bored in it?
If the existing prep is a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore, the tubular lock body drops into it. What is different from a knob swap is the second hole: a full length handleset needs the door prepped for the grip plate as well, and the two lock points sit 5-1/2 inches center to center. On a door bored only for a single lockset you will be drilling the second bore.
3) What does grip by grip mean on the Emtek 453636 handleset?
Grip by grip means a full length thumb-latch grip on both faces of the door instead of a grip outside and a knob or lever inside. It is a custom function Emtek makes to order, so it carries an extra 2 to 3 days of build time on top of normal handling. Keyed as a single cylinder: one key cylinder in the set.
4) Can the Emtek 453636 be keyed to match my existing Schlage or Weiser keys?
Schlage C is the standard keyway, so it keys into a Schlage C system as supplied. For a Weiser house key, order the Weiser (WR5) keyway option instead, which is done by putting a W in front of the product code.
