Emtek 8692 Modern Backplate for Cabinet Pull, Schaub Collection

The 8692 is the backplate only. It's the decorative plate that goes between the drawer front and the pull, so you order the pull as its own line item at the same center-to-center. Budget one plate per pull when you're pricing a kitchen or a unit turn, and keep the finish code the same on both so they match out of the box.

Every finish is offered in every length. Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26) and Satin Brass (US4) all run across the 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inch center-to-center sizes. That matters on a kitchen where the drawer banks take 8 or 10 inch pulls and the doors take 4 inch: you can run one finish through the whole room without dropping to a second brand for the long plates.

It's surface mount. The plate lays on the face of the drawer front or door, the pull sits on top of it, and the pull's own machine screws pass through the plate from the back of the panel. Because the plate stacks under the pull, the screws that shipped with a bare pull may come up short once you add that thickness, so check the length against your panel and pick up longer screws if they bottom out. The panel face also needs to be flat where the plate lands, since the plate runs past the two screw holes at both ends.

Brass is the substrate, not just the plating. Both the material and the substrate on the 8692 are brass, so what's under the finish is the same metal, not zinc die cast or stamped steel. On a bathroom vanity or a coastal kitchen that's the difference that decides how the part looks in five years, since a chip or a scratch on brass doesn't show a bright dissimilar metal underneath.

A backplate earns its place in three situations: painted or thermofoil fronts where knuckles and rings wear the finish right behind the pull, refresh work where the old hardware left a shadow or a small chip around the existing holes, and flat modern pulls that read too thin against a wide slab drawer front. The 8692 is the contemporary, squared-off take on that, so it suits flat panel and slab doors rather than traditional raised panel. If your fronts are stained wood in a low-traffic room and you like the pull as-is, you don't need one.

Emtek classes the 8692 as residential hardware. That's the right fit for apartment and condo kitchens, single family remodels, model units and hospitality casework, which is where most cabinet backplates go. On a commercial casework spec that calls out a specific grade or cycle count, it's not the line to reach for.

SPC86925US4 is the 8 inch center-to-center plate in Satin Brass (US4). The rest of the family follows the same 8692 model with the finish code on the end, so when you're quoting a job, call out the model, the center-to-center and the US finish code together (8692, 6 inch, US15 Satin Nickel, for example). Those three pieces are what pin down one part out of the 36 combinations.
