Emtek Brisbane 8" Door Pull

Three mounting styles, same 8 inch pull. Standard mounting is a single pull, thru-bolted with decorative caps. BTB is back-to-back: a matching Brisbane pull on each face of the door, bolted through to each other. CS is concealed surface mounting, which keeps the fastener heads out of sight on the finished face. The mounting is built into the part number, so it is easy to confirm on the order: 86170 plus the finish code for standard, BTB86170 for back-to-back, CS86170 for concealed surface. Flat black, for example, is 86170US19 standard, BTB86170US19 back-to-back, and CS86170US19 concealed surface.

Only if those holes are 8 inches apart. The Brisbane pull is 8 inch center-to-center and mounts thru-bolt, so the two fasteners pass through the door face at exactly that spacing. Any other spacing means drilling fresh holes and filling or covering the old ones, which is one reason people run the pull over a pull plate on a retrofit. Once mounted it stands 2 inches off the door face, and that projection is the hand clearance you get behind it.

The Brisbane 8 inch pull is a pull and nothing else. No latch, no lock, no cylinder, and it is not electronic, so on an entry door it goes on the exterior face and you still need a separate deadbolt or a lockset to latch and secure the opening. It mounts thru-bolt at 8 inch center-to-center with a 2 inch projection, in brass. Plenty of people run it exactly this way on a front door, paired with a deadbolt above it, but ordering it expecting a latch gets you the wrong part.

Order the BTB (back-to-back) mounting. That puts a Brisbane pull on both faces with the two bolted through the door to each other, and it is offered in all seven finishes, from BTB86170US10B in oil rubbed bronze to BTB86170US4 in satin brass. If the offset geometry matters more than the 45 degree bend, the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid door pull, 1" diameter, with heavy duty mounting, and the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end pull handle in a commercial grade surface mount. The Emtek Brisbane pull is a residential brass pull at 8" center-to-center with 2" projection, thru-bolt mounted.

The Brisbane 8" pull is ordered in a BTB (back-to-back) mounting version, offered in the same finish range as the standard thru-bolt build. Among comparable back-to-back sets, the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull supplied as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" thick. For a much longer run, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24" back-to-back modern offset pull and the SSPORBB24 is the 24" back-to-back round offset version. The choice comes down to length, offset shape and the door thickness the set is built for.

That matters on a run of doors where some openings take a single-sided pull and others need back-to-back or concealed surface mounting, because the whole run can still carry one finish. The codes are the standard US finish numbers, so they line up with the rest of the Emtek hardware being specified on the job.

For an opening that has to meet ADA, go with a pull stated to comply. Door or appliance pull is how Emtek classes the Brisbane, so it goes on a panel-ready refrigerator or a large cabinet door as readily as on a passage door. Two things decide whether it works on your panel: the 8 inch center-to-center hole spacing has to be drilled into the panel, and the mounting is thru-bolt, so the fasteners pass all the way through and the panel has to be able to take that. Projection is 2 inches off the face. Brass, in all seven finishes.

The Brisbane pull is a contemporary brass pull fixed at 8" center-to-center with 2" projection. For a longer contemporary pull on a single face, the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12" contemporary pull, single side. If the required dimension does not land on a stock length at all, the ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull offered with custom length options. Going longer again, the Deltana SSPOBB24 and SSPORBB24 are 24" pulls, both supplied back-to-back rather than single side.

No - they are different parts. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2" in height, in stainless steel construction, sized around a night latch cylinder rather than as a full grasping handle. The Emtek Brisbane is a brass door or appliance pull at 8" center-to-center with 2" projection, mounted thru-bolt. If the door has a night latch and the requirement is a cylinder pull, the PUL-175 is the part; if the requirement is a hand pull, it is not a stand-in.

The Brisbane 8" pull may be used on its own or with pull plates, so the push face is a separate part. The Trimco 1001-1 is a heavy duty push plate at 3" x 12", and the Trimco 1041 is a half-round push plate at 8" x 16" for a larger contact area. If you want the pull and the push face to read as one set, the Trimco 1070 series is a classic push/pull plate line at 3-1/2" x 15", supplying both faces from the same series. Pick by plate size against the stile width and the height of the push area you want covered.

The Brisbane 8" pull is brass, finished in Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4), which is the range that lets it match existing brass-family trim on a fleet of doors. The ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8" diameter with through-bolt mounting, and the Cal-Royal PUL-175 is stainless steel construction. Where the specification calls for stainless rather than a plated brass finish, those are the substrate matches.

US3NL is unlacquered brass, a living finish with no clear coat over it, so it darkens and patinas as hands work it. On a pull that gets gripped every day, the wear pattern shows in the palm area first while the ends go darker. That is the intended behavior of the finish, not a defect, but it does mean two pulls on a pair of doors will only stay identical if they see the same use. Satin brass (US4) is the other brass-tone finish offered on the Brisbane if a warm tone is what you are after without the changing surface.

The Brisbane pull works either way, on its own or set over a pull plate, which is the usual move when the door face needs protecting or when old fastener holes have to be covered on a retrofit. Bear in mind the plate adds its own thickness behind the pull, so the thru-bolts have to be long enough for door plus plate.
