Emtek Knoxville 8" Door Pull

Three mounting configurations are offered on the Knoxville pull. Standard mounting is thru-bolt with decorative caps, where the fasteners pass through the door and the caps finish the back side. BTB (back-to-back) pairs two pulls, one on each face, sharing the same thru-bolts, which is what you want on a glass or wood entry where both sides get a pull. CS (concealed surface) mounts from one side with no visible fastener heads on the face. Pick the configuration first, then the finish, because the part number carries the mounting as a prefix: 86077 for standard, BTB86077 for back-to-back, CS86077 for concealed surface.

Center-to-center is 8 inches on the Knoxville pull, which is the dimension you lay out and drill to. The pull's overall height is also 8 inches, so the mounting posts sit at the extreme ends of the body. If you are replacing an existing pull, measure your current hole spacing first; anything other than 8 inches on center means new holes or a plate to cover the old ones.

Projection is 2 inches on the Knoxville pull, measured from the door face to the back of the grip, so there is clearance for a gloved hand. The pull body is 8 inches high and 1-3/8 inches wide overall. On an in-swinging door check that 2 inches of projection clears any adjacent wall, casing, or a second leaf on a pair.

The Knoxville is a residential-rated brass pull, and that is how it should be specced. For a storefront, school, healthcare, or any opening taking constant traffic, go to a commercial-duty pull instead: the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight pull with 1 inch round bar and through-bolt mounting, the Ives 8145EZHD is a heavy duty 45 degree offset pull, and the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting. Use the Knoxville where the look matters and the traffic is domestic scale, such as a residential front entry, a pantry or an interior slab.

Order the BTB back-to-back version instead of two singles. The back-to-back configuration is built to share thru-bolts between the two pulls, so the fastener does the work of both and there are no exposed screw heads fighting each other in the middle of the door. Part numbers start with BTB86077 followed by the finish code, for example BTB86077US15 in Satin Nickel. Give your door thickness when ordering so the bolts are right. If you want back-to-back in a longer pull, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset set and the SSPORBB24 is the round offset version at the same length.

The Knoxville 8 inch pull is a brass residential pull with an 8 inch center-to-center and thru-bolt mounting. For a commercial entrance, the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight door pull, 1 inch round, with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull using a 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance. Both keep the thru-bolt approach while moving to a heavy duty pull.

The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware in the ADA compliant EZ series. The Emtek Knoxville is a straight 8 inch center-to-center brass pull for residential use, so on an ADA opening the 8145EZHD is the one specified for that requirement.

Not for a thick door. The Deltana OHP620 off-set handle pull back-to-back set is listed for a door thickness range of 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch. The Emtek Knoxville 8 inch pull is ordered back-to-back with a door thickness entry at the time of order, so it is the one to specify when the door falls outside that range.

The Knoxville is catalogued by Emtek as a door or appliance pull, so it works on a refrigerator or panel-front appliance as well as on a passage or entry door. The deciding numbers are 8 inches center-to-center for the hole layout and 2 inches of projection. On appliance panels, confirm the panel thickness at order time the same way you would a door, since the mounting is thru-bolt.

It goes either way. The Knoxville pull mounts directly to the door on its own, or it can be combined with a pull plate if you want a backing plate behind the grip, which is the usual choice when you are covering old fastener holes or protecting the door face. If you want a push plate on the opposite side, the Trimco 1001 heavy duty push plate is 3 by 12 inches and the Trimco 1041 half-round push plate is 8 by 16 inches; the Trimco 1070 Series classic push and pull plates come as a 3-1/2 by 15 inch set.

Eight inches is a single-hand grip pull, right for a passage door, a pantry, an appliance panel, or a modest entry. On a tall or oversized entry door where you want the pull to read at scale, a longer handle suits better: the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12 inch contemporary single-side pull, and the Deltana SSPOBB24 and SSPORBB24 are 24 inch back-to-back offset pulls. Note that going longer changes your hole layout; the Knoxville drills at 8 inches on center.

The CS concealed surface version. It mounts from the surface without exposed fastener heads showing on the face, unlike the standard thru-bolt version, which finishes with decorative caps on the opposite side. Order it as CS86077 plus the finish code, for example CS86077US10B in Oil Rubbed Bronze. Worth knowing: the standard thru-bolt caps are decorative and many buyers are happy with that look, so concealed surface is the choice when the back side of the door must stay completely clean.

For a longer grip, the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12 inch contemporary pull in a single side configuration, and the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset pull. The SSPORBB24 is the same 24 inch back-to-back length in a round offset profile.

The Knoxville is a straight pull with a 2 inch projection. Offset alternatives include the Ives 8169 C style offset solid pull at 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting, the ABH AB3310 offset flat end pull in a commercial grade surface mount, and the ABH AB3330 series offset round end pull, which is offered with custom length options.

The Knoxville pull is brass through and through, in both substrate and finish family. For a stainless option, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting, which keeps the same thru-bolt method the Knoxville uses. The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull at 1 inch diameter for a slightly larger grip.

Solid brass, both the substrate and the finished material, which is why it carries plated and living finishes like Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Polished Brass Lifetime (US3) rather than a coating over a lesser base. If you need stainless steel for a corrosion-exposed or coastal opening, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull and the Cal-Royal PUL-175 night latch cylinder pull is stainless at 3-1/2 inches high.

The Knoxville is a residential brass pull with an 8 inch center-to-center. The Trimco 1035 Ultimate Restroom Pull is a heavy duty pull built for that specific application, so on a commercial restroom door in a facility standardizing on heavy duty trim, the 1035 is the purpose-built choice.
