B-LINE 1550E-6507 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the 1550E-6507 sensor output NPN or PNP?
Both. The Enhanced 50 Series 1550E-6507 uses an NPN and PNP open collector output, so it wires into either sinking or sourcing PLC input cards without needing a different part number. Switching capacity is 250 mA maximum DC current.
2) Does this B-Line sensor come with a cable or is it a connector version?
It's a connector version. The 1550E-6507 terminates in a 4-pin mini connector, so you supply a mating 4-pin mini cordset of the length your run needs. There is no pigtail cable included with the sensor itself.
3) Can the 1550E-6507 handle washdown in a food plant?
It's built for it. The housing carries IP67 and IP69K ratings, IP69K being the high-pressure, high-temperature washdown rating used in food and beverage areas. The enclosure is fiberglass reinforced plastic, and it operates from -13 to 131 degrees F (-25 to 55 C), so cold rooms are also in range.
4) Do I need fiber optic cables to use the B-Line 1550E-6507?
Yes. This is a fiber optic amplifier, not a self-contained sensing head, so it needs a plastic or glass fiber optic cable assembly to do the actual sensing. It works in the infrared band. Choose the fiber pair (thru-beam) or bifurcated (diffuse) cable to suit the target and mounting point, then route it back to the amplifier.
5) How do I tell if a fiber sensor is set too close to its switching threshold?
The 1550E-6507 has a three-LED readout that tells you exactly that. Yellow shows power on, green shows output status, and red indicates marginal gain, meaning the received signal is near the trip point and the setup will be unreliable as the lens fouls or the target shifts. If red comes on during commissioning, re-aim the fiber or clean the ends before you leave the machine.
6) Can I drive a contactor coil directly from this sensor?
No. The 1550E-6507 is a DC open collector device limited to 250 mA at 40 Vdc, which is a PLC input or a small interposing relay, not an AC coil. Feed it into a DC interface relay and switch the contactor from there.
