B-LINE 1550E-6514 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What can the 1550E-6514 sensor output switch directly, or do I need an interposing relay?
The output is an SPDT Form C relay rated 3A at 240 Vac, with 3A the maximum AC current. That is enough to drive a small contactor coil, a solenoid valve or a pilot light directly. Anything drawing more than 3A, or a motor load, needs an interposing relay or contactor. Form C gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact off the same sensor, so light-operate or dark-operate logic is a wiring choice rather than a different part number.
2) Is this B-Line 50 Series sensor a self-contained photoeye, or does it need fiber optic cables?
It is a fiberoptic amplifier, not a standalone photoeye. Sensor type is fiberoptic, with fiberoptic and infrared operating modes, so the sensing is done by a separate fiber optic cable assembly that threads into the unit. Order the fibers to suit the target: the 1550E-6514 head itself only holds the electronics, LEDs and relay output. If you want a sensor with the lens built in, a fiberoptic amplifier is the wrong choice.
3) Can the B-Line 1550E-6514 sensor be washed down or used in a wet food plant?
Yes. It carries IP67 and IP69K ratings, so it withstands temporary immersion and high pressure, high temperature washdown. The housing is fiberglass reinforced plastic, which handles caustic sanitation chemistry better than a painted metal body. Operating range is -13 to 131 F (-25 to 55 C), covering chilled processing rooms but not a blast freezer.
4) Does the 1550E-6514 come with a cable, or do I wire to terminals?
It ships with an attached 6.6 ft (2 m) PVC cable. There is no terminal chamber to land conductors in and no connector to buy, so plan your junction box within pigtail reach or splice in a suitably rated extension.
5) How do I tell if the B-Line 50 Series sensor is marginally aligned without a meter?
Three LEDs do it. Yellow shows power on, green shows output status, and red flags marginal gain. If the red marginal gain LED is lit while the sensor is still switching, the signal is weak enough that dust, vibration or fiber drift will cause nuisance trips, so realign the fiber or adjust sensitivity before you leave the machine.
6) What are the physical dimensions of the B-Line 1550E-6514 sensor for panel layout?
The body measures 3.46 x 1.91 x 1.81 inches and weighs about .5375 lb. That footprint matters most when you are stacking several fiberoptic amplifiers side by side on a bracket or DIN rail inside a control enclosure, so allow for the pigtail bend radius as well as the body itself.
