Metallics EB19 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Metallics EB19 eye bolt, and does it come with a nut?
The EB19 is a 1/2 x 2 inch turned eye bolt, and a nut ships with it. The 1/2 refers to the shank diameter and the 2 inches is the bolt length, so you have threaded shank to pass through the member plus the nut to draw it up on the back side.
2) Is the Metallics EB19 eye bolt rated for overhead lifting?
No. A turned eye bolt is a bent, non-welded loop and should be treated as a light-duty anchor or support fitting only. For hoisting or any rated load path, use a forged shoulder eye bolt or a rated lifting eye with a published working load limit.
3) How many eye bolts come in a jar of Metallics EB19?
Each jar holds 25 of the 1/2 x 2 inch eye bolts with nuts. It is sold as a jar pack, which is the usual way these move for service trucks and MRO shelves rather than loose by the piece.
4) Is the Metallics EB19 eye bolt a forged eye or a turned eye?
It is a turned eye, meaning the eye is formed by bending the rod rather than forged closed. The loop is not welded shut, so it is suited to light pull and support work such as guy wire anchoring, hanging, and tie-off of runs, not overhead lifting or rated rigging.
5) Will the Metallics EB19 eye bolt hold up outdoors or in a damp electrical room?
The EB19 is steel with a zinc finish, which gives it ordinary corrosion resistance for dry interior and sheltered exterior use. For coastal, continuously wet, or chemically aggressive locations, step up to hot dip galvanized or stainless eye bolts instead.
6) How thick a member can I bolt through with a 2 inch eye bolt?
With a 2 inch overall bolt length, usable grip after the eye is limited, so plan on roughly an inch or so of material plus the nut. For thicker beams, blocking, or double plates, specify a longer eye bolt rather than trying to make the 2 inch version reach.
7) What thread size nut do I need if I lose the nuts from a jar of EB19 eye bolts?
The shank is 1/2 inch, so a 1/2-13 UNC hex nut is the standard match for a coarse thread bolt of that diameter. Zinc plated nuts keep the finish consistent with the bolt.
8) What is the Metallics part number for the 1/2 x 2 zinc eye bolt with nut?
Order it as Metallics EB19. That number covers the 1/2 x 2 turned eye bolt and nut in zinc plated steel, packed 25 to a jar.
