Blackburn FBG12 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Blackburn FBG12 flexible braid connector used for?
The FBG12 is a flat, flexible tin-plated copper braid strap used to bond or jumper between two points that need to stay electrically connected while allowing movement or vibration - switchgear doors, transformer cases, bus connections, equipment grounding across a flexible joint. It has a terminal pad at each end with two bolt holes, so it lands on a drilled pad rather than a lug crimp.
2) Is the Blackburn FBG12 braid UL listed?
It carries UL file E3060 and CSA LR29625. That covers the connector for use where a listed bonding or grounding connector is required by inspection.
3) Should I use a flexible braid or a solid copper bonding jumper?
Use flexible braid like the FBG12 anywhere the two connection points move relative to each other - hinged enclosure doors, vibrating motor or transformer frames, seismic or expansion joints on bus. A solid bar or a rigid jumper will work-harden and crack under that movement. Where both ends are fixed and static, a solid bonding jumper or a cable lug assembly is the simpler choice.
4) Why tin-plated copper instead of bare copper braid?
The FBG12 braid is tin-plated copper. The tin slows oxidation on the strands and at the bolted terminal face, which matters in damp, outdoor, or industrial atmospheres where bare copper builds resistive oxide at the joint. It also makes the braid safer to land on aluminum or plated hardware than bare copper.
5) Is the Blackburn FBG12 sold individually or in a pack?
Sold each, one strap per unit. If you are bonding a run of enclosure doors or several equipment frames, order one FBG12 per connection point. Mounting bolts and washers are not part of the strap.
6) Is the Blackburn FBG12 made in the USA?
Country of origin is the United States, which matters on federal, Buy American, and many institutional specs where domestic-origin electrical components have to be documented.
