Blackburn FB2G12 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and length is the Blackburn FB2G12 flexible braid?
The Blackburn FB2G12 is a flexible bonding braid rated 614.4 KCMIL and 12 inches long. It's sold as a single piece, one braid per order, not by the foot or in a coil.
2) Why use a flexible braid jumper instead of solid or stranded bonding wire?
A braid like the FB2G12 is built for connections that move or vibrate: across expansion joints, on equipment doors and hinged panels, motor and generator frames, transformer bases, and conduit runs with flexible couplings. Solid or stranded copper conductor is fine for static bonds, but it work-hardens and eventually cracks where there's repeated flexing. The 12 inch length gives enough slack to absorb that movement while keeping a low-impedance path.
3) How does the 614.4 KCMIL rating on this braid compare to standard wire sizes?
614.4 KCMIL puts the FB2G12 between 600 KCMIL and 650 KCMIL in cross-sectional area, well above 4/0 AWG (roughly 212 KCMIL). If your bonding jumper is sized off the service conductors or the largest ungrounded conductor, check the required jumper size against that figure before you substitute a smaller braid.
4) Is the Blackburn FB2G12 bonding braid made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin is the United States. That matters on federal, municipal, and other domestic-preference jobs where grounding and bonding material has to meet sourcing requirements on the submittal.
