Philips Lighting 1177SH – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Philips 1177SH trim be used in a shower or covered outdoor ceiling?
The 1177SH is a wet location downlight trim, so it is built for moisture-prone openings: shower and bath ceilings, commercial restrooms, covered walkways and entries, pool and spa areas, laundry and food prep rooms. The opalex lens diffuser closes off the aperture, which is what makes the wet location use possible.
2) What lamp does the Philips 1177SH Flush Opalex reflector trim take?
One 26 watt CFL, triple-tube (Triple T) envelope. It is a single-lamp trim, so there is no two-lamp version of the 1177SH. If your housing is wired for a different lamp type or a different wattage CFL ballast, this is not the trim to pair with it.
3) Does the 1177SH trim come with a housing, or is it trim only?
Trim only. The 1177SH is a reflector trim with an opalex lens that drops into an existing recessed housing; the housing, socket and ballast are separate. Order the trim to match a 6 3/4 inch aperture housing wired for a single 26W triple-tube CFL.
4) Will a 6 3/4 inch Opalex trim fit my 6 inch recessed can?
Check the housing's aperture call-out, not the can diameter. The 1177SH is built to a 6 3/4 inch aperture size code and mounts recessed into a matching round housing. If your housing is specified for a different aperture, the flange and reflector will not seat correctly.
5) What kind of light output does the Opalex lens give compared to an open reflector trim?
Photometric distribution is direct, so the light is thrown straight down for task coverage. The difference is the lens: opalex diffuses the source across the aperture to cut glare, where an open or clear-lens reflector puts out a harder, more defined beam. Pick the opalex version where people look up into the fixture (restrooms, showers, corridors) or where the location is wet.
6) What exact part number should I quote for the Philips Flush Opalex wet location trim?
Catalog number 1177SH, described by Philips as the 6 3/4 inch Flush Opalex Lens Diffuser Wet Location trim and listed on the order sheet as FLUSH OPALEX REFL TRIM. That single catalog number is the whole configuration, there are no finish or size options to specify with it.
7) How is the Philips 1177SH packed if I'm buying for a multi-unit job?
One trim per pack, six packs to an outer box. For a property manager standardizing bathroom downlights across units, that works out to six trims per carton.
