1) Will the Thomas & Betts CIFS-6 cover fit an FS box, or only an FD box?
The CIFS-6 is an FS box cover, so it mounts to the cover opening of a single-gang FS cast box. FD boxes use the same cover footprint as FS in the standard FS/FD family, so a 1-gang FS cover will sit on a 1-gang FD box as well. What it will not do is cover a 4-inch square or handy box, which use a different cover pattern entirely.
2) What device does the CIFS-6 FS cover accept?
One standard duplex receptacle. The CIFS-6 is cut for a 1-gang duplex opening, so it will not take a toggle switch, a decorator/GFCI style device, or a single round receptacle. If you are covering a GFCI or a Decora device you need a rectangular-opening FS cover instead.
3) Is a stamped aluminum FS cover OK outdoors or in a damp location?
The CIFS-6 is stamped aluminum, which resists corrosion and is commonly used on exterior and damp-location FS boxes in the weatherproof box family. It is a device cover, not a weatherproof-while-in-use enclosure, so for a receptacle exposed to the weather and in use you still need a flip lid or an in-use cover over it, plus the gasket, to keep water off the device.
4) Is the CIFS-6 the same thing as an Iberville FS duplex cover?
Yes. CIFS-6 is the Thomas & Betts part number, carried under the Iberville sub-brand, so an Iberville FS 1-gang duplex cover spec on a drawing or an old box is filled by this part number.
5) Do I need a gasket and screws with the CIFS-6 FS cover, or are they included?
Treat the CIFS-6 as the cover plate only. Cover screws normally come with the FS box itself, and a cork or neoprene gasket is a separate item you add when the box is in a wet or damp location. Order the gasket alongside if the opening is exposed.
6) Will the CIFS-6 match the other aluminum FS covers on my building?
It is silver stamped aluminum, the standard unpainted mill finish used across aluminum FS boxes and covers, so it will read the same as existing bare aluminum covers on a run of exterior boxes. It will not match a painted gray zinc-plated steel or a PVC cover.
7) Does the CIFS-6 come as a single cover or in a box of multiples?
The CIFS-6 is sold each, so a quantity of one gets you one cover. Order the count you need for the job rather than a carton quantity.
