GMS Lock-Cylinders ICR7-26D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the GMS ICR rim housing, and does it come with a core?
The GMS ICR (model ICSR) is a straight rim cylinder housing built to take a Best-style small format interchangeable core, 7-pin. It is the shell only: you supply the SFIC core keyed to your system and drop it in. If you need a complete working cylinder, order the housing and a 7-pin SFIC core together.
2) Will a Best 7-pin SFIC core fit the GMS ICR rim housing?
Yes, that is exactly what it is built for. The ICR is a Best small format interchangeable core housing in 7-pin depth, so a standard Best-style SFIC core, or any of the aftermarket cores cut to the Best SFIC figure-eight profile, seats in it with a control key. A 6-pin SFIC core also drops into a 7-pin housing since the core body is the same size; the pin depth is a property of the core, not the shell.
3) Which cam comes on the GMS ICR rim cylinder housing?
The ICR ships with an Adams Rite and Yale style cam. That covers the two most common rim applications a locksmith runs into: Adams Rite narrow stile aluminum door devices and Yale-pattern rim exit device cylinders. If your exit device calls for a different cam standard, the ICR is not the housing for it.
4) Can I use the GMS ICR rim housing on a rim exit device on an aluminum storefront door?
That is its main use. A straight rim housing with an Adams Rite and Yale cam mounts through the door and drives the rim device from the outside, which is the standard arrangement on aluminum storefront and narrow stile openings running Adams Rite hardware. Match the housing to your device's cam requirement first, then key the SFIC core to your system.
5) Is a rim housing the same as a mortise cylinder? I need to know which one my door takes.
They are not interchangeable. The GMS ICR is a rim housing, which mounts through the door with a tailpiece cam that reaches back to a rim exit device or rim latch. A mortise cylinder threads into a mortise lock body. Look at what is behind your existing cylinder: if it screws in with threads, you need a mortise cylinder, not this. If it is held by two machine screws from the inside face of the door and drives a rim device, the rim housing is correct.
6) What finishes does the GMS ICR SFIC rim housing come in?
Four finishes, and they are the ones that let you match existing hardware across a building: 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 622 matte black, and 626 satin chrome. 626 is the usual match for commercial aluminum storefront and most exit device trim; 613 and 622 are the darker options for retail and hospitality openings.
7) I manage a portfolio of buildings on a Best keyway. Can I standardize on the GMS ICR for rim exit devices?
Yes, provided your devices take an Adams Rite or Yale cam. Because the ICR takes Best small format interchangeable cores, every rim opening in the portfolio runs the same core your other SFIC hardware uses, so rekeying a tenant turnover is a control key twist rather than a service call with a pinning kit. Order the housings in whichever of the four finishes matches your existing trim and stock the cores separately.
8) What else do I need to order with the GMS ICR housing to make the opening work?
Three things beyond the housing. A Best-style 7-pin SFIC core, cut and keyed to your system. A control key for that system, if you do not already carry one, since the core cannot be installed or removed without it. And the mounting screws and tailpiece appropriate to your rim device, which most exit devices supply in their own trim kit. The housing itself is the shell.
9) Is a Codelocks CL4000 glass door strike box an alternative to a GMS ICR rim housing?
No - the two parts do different jobs. The GMS ICR is an LFIC rim housing, the shell that accepts a Best-style small format interchangeable core and drives a rim device, with an Adams Rite and Yale cam. The Codelocks CL4000-RSB is a strike box for use with CL4000 or CL4500 glass door locks, so it mounts on the receiving side of the opening rather than carrying a core. If you need somewhere for a keyed core to live, the ICR is the part; the strike box will not accept one.
