1) Do I need to rewire or change the power supply when adding a 4501-1/2 lip extension?
No wiring changes. The lip extension is a mechanical part that adds keeper lip length, it carries no solenoid, switch, or leads of its own, so voltage, current draw, and the fail-safe or fail-secure setting of the 4500 Series strike are unaffected. Install it on the strike and leave the electrical side alone.
2) Is the Securitron SB-MXD an alternative to the HES 4501-1/2 lip extension?
No. The HES 4501-1/2 is a 1/2 inch stackable lip extension for 4500 Series electric strikes, an installation accessory that builds out the strike lip to meet the door. The Securitron SB-MXD is an exit delay sex bolt, a through-bolt fastener used to mount exit delay hardware. The two solve different problems, and the sex bolt does nothing to close a gap between a 4500 Series strike lip and the latch.
3) Can an RCI 9500/9501 mortise pin transfer be used in place of an HES 4501-1/2?
No. The RCI 9500/9501 is a mortise pin transfer rated 1.5A at 24VAC, a tamper-resistant way to carry power from the frame into the door edge. The HES 4501-1/2 carries no current at all; it is a stackable 1/2 inch lip extension that adds reach to the lip of a 4500 Series electric strike. If the strike lip is short of the latch, the 4501-1/2 addresses that; if power has to cross the hinge side into the door, the 9500/9501 addresses that.
4) Does a Securitron SAM surface mount kit accessory do the same job as the HES 4501-1/2?
No. Securitron SAM Surface Mount Kit Accessories, along with the SWB SAM wood bracket, are mounting parts for surface mounted magnetic lock hardware. The HES 4501-1/2 is a stackable 1/2 inch lip extension for 4500 Series electric strikes, which are mortised into the frame rather than surface applied. An opening built around a 4500 Series strike takes the 4501-1/2; an opening built around a SAM magnetic lock takes the SAM brackets.
