The HES 8300 strike body is a fire rated, concealed solution for cylindrical locksets. The 8300 Series electric strike is compact, high performance electric strike featuring a unique concealed design for use with cylindrical locksets. No cutting on the frame is required. Simply remove the existing ANSI strike plate, adjust the vertical alignment feature to the latchbolt centerline and install. HES 8300 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the HES 8300 electric strike approved for a fire rated door, and can I still wire it fail safe?
Fire rated to 3 hours under UL 10C, but that rating covers the fail secure setting only. The 8300 is field selectable, so on a labeled fire door you set it fail secure: the keeper stays locked when power drops and the door still latches. Set the same strike fail safe and you no longer have a fire rated opening. Beyond UL 10C it is ULC-S104 (CAN4-S104), NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152 fire door conformant, NFPA 80-07 compliant, and UL 294 listed for access control use.
2) What latchbolt throw does the HES 8300 strike accept, and will my cylindrical lock latch work with it?
Cylindrical latchbolts from 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch throw. The 5/8 inch figure carries a condition: you need a 1/8 inch door-to-frame gap for the keeper to clear it. It is a cylindrical-lockset strike, so a mortise lock latch and an exit device Pullman latch are both out. 3) My door is under pressure from the closer and weatherstripping. Will the HES 8300 release under preload?
Not a preload strike. The 8300 is not preload capable, so if the door leaf is being pushed against the keeper, by closer pressure, compressed gasketing, stack pressure in a stairwell, or a warped leaf, the keeper can bind and the strike may not release when it is energized. Fix the condition first: adjust the closer and the door alignment so the latch sits in the keeper without side load. If the opening genuinely cannot be relieved, an electric strike is the wrong device for it and you want a preload-rated device or an electrified lock instead.
4) What power supply do I need for a HES 8300 electric strike, and can I run it on AC?
