1) What kind of lock does the HES Folger Adam SB730 electric strike work with?
The SB730 strike body is built for latchbolt locks, both cylindrical and mortise. It releases the latchbolt on signal, so the lock itself stays mechanically intact. If the opening uses a mortise lock with a deadbolt thrown into the frame, that deadbolt still has to be retracted by key or thumbturn; an electric strike only controls the latch.
2) Should I order the SB730 fail-safe or fail-secure?
Both are orderable on the 730. Fail-safe unlocks when power drops, which is what you want on a stair or egress-side opening tied to a fire alarm release. Fail-secure stays locked with no power, so the door remains secure during an outage and free egress is handled by the lever on the inside. Pick fail-secure for exterior and perimeter doors, fail-safe where a code-required release has to drop the lock.
3) Is the HES 730 strike body 12 volt or 24 volt?
You choose at order time: the 730 comes in 12 VDC and 24 VDC builds. It is a DC strike, so match it to a filtered DC supply, not an AC transformer. Check what your access control panel or power supply puts out before you pick the voltage, since the body is not field-convertible between the two.
4) What does the LBMLCM option on the HES 730 add, and do I need it?
LBMLCM is the latchbolt and locking cam monitor. It reports two things back to your access control system: whether the latchbolt is actually seated in the strike, and whether the strike's locking cam has relocked. If you only need door position, a separate door contact does that. Order LBMLCM when the panel has to prove the door is secured, which is common on detention, high security, and audited openings. It has to be specified on the order; it cannot be added to a plain body later.
5) Is the HES Folger Adam 730 strong enough for a heavy abuse door like a school corridor or detention area?
It is an industrial grade strike with 1500 lbs of holding force and all stainless steel construction, which is the reason it gets specified on high abuse openings. It is also ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1, the top grade for electric strikes. For a standard office or tenant door, a lighter duty strike is usually enough; the 730 is the choice where the door gets kicked, pulled, or cycled hard.
6) How do I know the 730 will work with the lock already on my door?
It is made for cylindrical and mortise latchbolt locks, but the deciding factor is latch throw and latch profile, not just lock family. HES publishes a compatibility chart for its strikes; check your lock's manufacturer and model against that chart before ordering. If the lock throws a deadbolt as well as a latch, the strike controls the latch only.
7) Can the HES 730 electric strike be used on an outdoor door?
Yes. The 700 Series is UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed and suitable for outdoor use, and the body is stainless steel, which is what makes it workable on exterior and perimeter openings. It is also UL 294 listed for access control use.
8) Will the SB730 strike body go into a wood door frame?
Wood is the door type listed for the 730 strike body. As with any electric strike of this class, the frame has to be prepped and the body has to be wired through the frame, so plan on a mortise cut plus a wire path. The installation instruction sheet published with the product covers the prep.
9) Is the HES 730 a complete strike or do I need a faceplate too?
What is being ordered here is the strike body itself, the 730 mechanism in the four fail-safe/fail-secure and voltage builds plus the optional monitor. Faceplate selection is separate and depends on your frame condition and the latch you are replacing, so budget for that as a line item alongside the body.
10) Can I standardize on the 730 across a whole building with a mix of 12V and 24V panels?
You can run the same 730 body everywhere and simply order the voltage that matches each panel, since the strike is offered in both 12 VDC and 24 VDC. That keeps one strike body, one frame prep, and one spare part on the shelf across the facility. Where openings differ is the fail-safe versus fail-secure call, which follows the egress and fire alarm requirements of each door, not the panel.
