Houzer BG-8500 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Houzer sink does the BG-8500 bottom grid fit?
The BG-8500 Wirecraft grid is cut for one sink only: Houzer PTU-2800. It is not a universal grid, so if the bowl in your kitchen is any other Houzer model or another brand, the footprint will not sit correctly and you need the grid matched to that bowl.
2) What are the actual dimensions of the BG-8500 sink grid?
It measures 21-7/16 x 15 x 1 inches. Check those numbers against the inside bowl dimensions you are working with: the grid has to clear the bowl walls and sit flat on the bottom, which is why it is sized for the PTU-2800 bowl specifically.
3) Does a stainless bottom grid like the BG-8500 actually protect the sink, or is it just for noise?
Both. The grid lifts dishes off the bowl floor so pans and flatware do not scratch the finish, and the plastic feet underneath keep it from sliding and rattling while you wash. Property managers put them in because they cut down on complaints about chipped glassware and on wear marks in the bottom of the bowl.
4) Is the BG-8500 a kitchen sink accessory or can it be used in a bar or utility sink?
It is a kitchen bottom grid, built to the PTU-2800 bowl footprint at 21-7/16 x 15 inches. That is a full-size kitchen bowl size, so it will not drop into a bar or prep bowl. For a smaller bowl you want the Houzer grid sized for that model.
5) What finish does the Houzer BG-8500 come in, and will it match a stainless sink?
One finish is offered, satin stainless steel, which reads the same as the brushed satin interior of a stainless kitchen bowl. The grid is stainless steel construction, so it will not rust out from standing water the way a chrome-plated grid can.
6) Does the BG-8500 need any hardware or mounting to install?
No hardware, no tools. The grid sets into the bowl on its own protective feet and is removable for cleaning, so a maintenance tech can drop it in on a turnover with nothing else ordered.
