Houzer BG-3500 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Houzer BG-3500 bottom grid fit any kitchen sink, or only certain Houzer bowls?
It is sized for one bowl only: Houzer sink model MES-3221. The BG-3500 is a custom-fit grid, not a universal one, so dropping it into another brand's bowl or a different Houzer model will leave it either rattling loose or sitting up on the bowl radius. If your sink is not an MES-3221, measure the bowl floor and look for a grid cut to that footprint instead.
2) What are the actual dimensions of the Houzer BG-3500 sink grid?
The grid measures 14-1/2 x 17-5/16 x 1 inches. The 1 inch figure is the height with the feet, which is what keeps dishes off the bowl floor. If you are checking clearance around a rear-set drain or a disposal flange, work from the 14-1/2 by 17-5/16 footprint.
3) Does a bottom grid actually help in a rental or multi-family kitchen, or is it just an upsell?
For a property manager, the point is wear. The BG-3500 sits on plastic feet that hold it in place, so pans and plates land on the grid rather than scratching the stainless bowl floor, and the feet cut the noise and movement at the same time. On turnover that means fewer scratched-looking bowls that tenants complain about. It is a stainless steel grid, so water, food and cleaners are not an issue.
4) Do I need anything else to install a Houzer bottom sink grid?
Nothing. The grid drops into the bowl and rests on its own feet, so there is no hardware, no fasteners and no plumbing work. Pull it out for cleaning and set it back in. One part number, BG-3500, is all you order.
5) Is the BG-3500 grid finished to match a satin stainless Houzer sink?
It ships in satin stainless steel, the single finish offered, which reads alongside the brushed interior of a Houzer MES-3221 bowl rather than contrasting with it. There is no polished or coated option to choose between at order time.
6) Will the Houzer BG-3500 work in a bathroom lavatory or a bar sink?
No. It is a kitchen accessory sized for a full kitchen bowl at 14-1/2 by 17-5/16 inches, far larger than a lav basin or a prep/bar bowl. For those, you need a grid cut to that smaller footprint.
