1) What size cabinet do I need for the Houzer NVS-2600 undermount sink?
Plan on a 30 inch base cabinet minimum. The sink itself is 26 x 17-13/16 x 9 inches overall, so a 30 inch cabinet leaves room for the undermount clips and the sealant bead at the front and back of the opening. Anything narrower and the rim will not land on supportable countertop.
2) Will a 9 inch deep single bowl sink clear a standard garbage disposal and P-trap?
The bowl is 9 inches deep with the drain at the rear. Rear drain placement is what buys you room, since the trap arm runs back toward the wall instead of sitting dead center under the cabinet floor, and it keeps more usable space under the bowl for a disposal. Check your drain stub-out height before you set the sink, because 9 inches of bowl plus a disposal body eats most of the vertical room in a 34-1/2 inch cabinet.
3) What drain opening does the NVS-2600 take, and will a standard disposal flange fit?
The drain opening is 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard kitchen size. That means a standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainer or any standard disposal mounting flange drops straight in. A basket strainer (190-9180) is already included in the box, so if you are installing a disposal instead, you will simply not use it.
4) What accessories come with the Houzer NVS-2600 or do I need to buy the workstation parts separately?
Everything that makes it a workstation ships with the sink: basket strainer 190-9180, Wirecraft bottom grid BG-4400, cutting board CB-5300, drying tray DT-4230, and roll-up rinsing mat RO-1600. The only thing you buy separately is the faucet and the drain or disposal assembly.
5) Does the NVS-2600 come with mounting clips and a cutout template?
Yes, mounting hardware and installation instructions are in the box, and a template is included for marking the countertop cutout. Houzer also publishes an undermount installation instruction sheet for the series. For a stone top, your fabricator will still want the sink on site to template and polish the reveal.
6) Can this sink be installed in a laminate or tile countertop, or does it need stone?
It is an undermount sink, so it needs a countertop material that can take a finished, sealed cutout edge and carry the sink from below. Granite, quartz, and solid surface are the normal substrates. Standard post-form laminate is not suitable for undermounting because the exposed particleboard core at the cutout will swell. Mounting hardware for the undermount installation is supplied.
7) Is 18 gauge stainless tough enough for a rental or commercial kitchen?
The bowl is 18 gauge Type 304 stainless with a satin finish, which is the grade and thickness normally specified for heavy residential and light commercial use. Type 304 is the chromium-nickel alloy that resists food acids and cleaning chemicals; the included Wirecraft bottom grid takes the abuse from pots and protects the bowl floor, which is the detail that matters most in multi-family turnover units. A sound-absorbing pad is applied to cut clatter.
8) How is a dual platform workstation sink different from a regular single bowl undermount?
A regular single bowl gives you one open basin. The NVS-2600 has two levels of ledges built into the bowl walls, so the cutting board, drying tray, and rolling rinse rack slide along either tier.
