The IDEAL 89-40x barrier terminal strips take copper conductors from 22 AWG up to 12 AWG, so one strip handles everything from small control and signal wiring to 12 AWG branch conductors. Terminals are #6-32 Philslot zinc-plated steel screws, so ring or spade tongues sized for a #6 stud land cleanly.

Tighten to 9 in.-lb. That applies to the #6-32 terminal screws across the 89-40 series. Under-torquing a 22 AWG control conductor is the usual cause of an intermittent circuit on these strips, so set the driver rather than going by feel.

Center spacing between poles on the 89-40 series is .437 inch (11.10mm), so it drops into layouts built around that pitch and lines up with existing marker strips and jumpers cut for .437 centers. If your panel was laid out for a wider or metric-pitch barrier strip, the terminals will not line up with the existing wire dress.

The screws, surface plates and optional hardware on the 89-40 strips are heavy-duty and corrosion resistant, with zinc plating on the steel terminal screws, and the base is rugged polyester thermoplastic. That handles the humidity and dust of a mechanical or equipment room inside an enclosure. It is a barrier strip, not a sealed connector, so it still needs a suitable enclosure for wet locations.
