1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RA1163 fork terminal accept?
The RA1163 is sized for 22 to 16 AWG stranded copper conductors, which is the red insulation color code on nylon insulated terminals. If you're terminating 14 or 12 AWG, you need the blue (16-14) or yellow (12-10) barrel instead, not this one.
2) Will the RA1163 fork terminal fit a 1/4 inch terminal screw?
Yes. The RA1163 fork tongue is made for a 1/4 inch stud or screw, so it slips over a loosened 1/4-20 or #14 terminal screw without pulling the wire off the block. On smaller #6 or #8 control terminals the tongue will be oversized and won't seat under the screw head properly.
3) Can I use a nylon insulated fork terminal on a 480V motor control circuit?
The RA1163 carries a 600 V rating, so it's good for 480 V control and power terminations as well as 120/277 V work. It's also UL recognized under file E9809.
4) Should I use a fork terminal or a ring terminal on a terminal strip?
A fork (spade) terminal like the RA1163 slides on and off without removing the screw, which is what you want on a crowded terminal strip or a panel you'll be troubleshooting repeatedly. A ring terminal is captive and can't vibrate off the stud, so it's the better call on motor leads, grounding lugs, and anything subject to movement. Both land on the same 1/4 inch screw.
5) Do I need a special crimper for Sta-Kon RA1163 terminals?
Use an insulated-terminal crimper matched to the red 22-16 AWG color-coded nest. Sta-Kon terminals are designed around a controlled-cycle Sta-Kon tool, and the red die position is what produces a crimp that holds the stated pull strength. A generic plier-style crimper on the wrong nest size is the most common cause of pull-outs on 22-16 AWG.
6) Is the RA1163 insulation nylon or vinyl, and does that matter?
Nylon. Nylon insulated barrels resist abrasion and handle higher temperatures than vinyl, and they hold their shape when crimped, so they're the usual choice for panel and machine wiring where terminals get flexed or pulled. The conductive barrel and tongue are copper.
7) Are these fork terminals made in the USA?
