1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RC1253 fork terminal take?
The Sta-Kon RC1253 flanged fork terminal is sized for 12-10 AWG copper wire, and the yellow nylon insulation is the standard color code for that gauge range. If you are terminating 16-14 AWG you need a blue-barrel terminal instead, and 22-18 AWG takes a red one; crimping a smaller conductor in a yellow barrel will not hold.

No. The barrel is copper and is intended for copper conductors only. Aluminum wire requires a terminal rated AL/CU with the appropriate compound, so specify a dual-rated lug for aluminum feeders.
